Hello all,

Geographically speaking, the Antipodes of any region on earth is the point on the earth’s surface completely opposite to it. The exact Antipodes of my home in Somerset, for example, lies somewhere in the South Pacific Ocean. For the sake of convenience, however, I have chosen New Zealand as a substantial way-point on the other side of the world, and I have decided to try and get there from England by travelling over land and over sea as much as possible, doing my utmost to avoid all air travel.

For at least the first half of the trip I intend to travel by motorcycle, but as with most journeys, I fully anticipate my plans to evolve further down the line; and whilst I do have an approximate route in mind, should opportunities or motivations  pull me in other directions, I will not inhibit them. Of course, the problem with the Antipodes is that as I move across the globe, so the Antipodes will continue to move opposite me, making it impossible to ever actually arrive. In light of this, my trip is governed by only two chief objectives: to keep moving forwards in the direction of New Zealand, and to write a book about my journey.

As most of my efforts will be directed towards my book, the content on this site will be terse, the posts sporadic, and photographs few and far between. I will do my best though, when internet connection allows, to use this page to keep family and friends updated on my whereabouts – but any sort of detailed narrative or account will have to wait.

I will also use this page to provide information on where I intend to be several weeks in advance. Should any of you find yourselves heading for a point along the way, do drop me a message.

All the best,

Sam
